Brandon Moss had settled into his San Francisco hotel room late Wednesday night and room service had just arrived when his phone rang with news that was tough to swallow.
Trapped in a season-long hole and running short of time to find a ladder, Moss came to believe being unproductive for Cleveland made him unappealing at the trade deadline. He didn’t expect another team to covet his .217 average or his .288 on-base percentage, even with those occasional sparks of power. The call came anyway. Moss kept the silver lid on his meal so he could talk to Indians general manager Chris Antonetti about the trade that was about to happen.
