PHOENIX • After 49 homerless, and mostly hitless, at-bats as a Cardinal, Brandon Moss finally displayed why the club acquired him from Cleveland at the trading deadline.
Moss, who had 15 homers for Cleveland in four months, had had only eight hits in his first month in St. Louis. That was until he followed Kolten Wong's two-out single in the fifth with a homer to right off Rubby De La Russa to snap a tie and give the Cardinals a 5-3 lead over Arizona Thursday night.
De La Rosa had set down 11 of 12 hitters from the second through the fifth until Wong singled out of the reach of shortstop Chris Owings.
