Molina's single scores two, but Cardinals still trail

A broken bat couldn't stop Yadier Molina from cutting the Pirates' lead to 8-5 in the seventh inning.

With two outs and two strikes, the Cardinals catcher shattered his bat when he skipped Arquimedes Caminero's 100 mph fastball into right field to score Stephen Piscotty and Brandon Moss.

Earlier in the inning, the Cardinals loaded the bases with walks (Matt Carpenter, Matt Holliday) and a single by Stephen Piscotty. Moss hit into a fielder's choice that scored Carpenter.

Reliever Seth Maness is back out on the mound for the top of the eighth.
