CHICAGO • Yadier Molina's annual advancement on the most-decorated catchers of all time could continue this fall with his ninth consecutive Gold Glove Award.
Rawlings, a St. Louis-based sporting goods company and the creator of baseball's Gold Glove awards, announced Thursday afternoon the finalists for every position in both leagues. Molina and his longtime teammate Adam Wainwright are finalists at catcher and pitcher, respectively. Both have won before.
The other finalists at catcher for the award are the usual challengers.
San Francisco's Buster Posey and former Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy have both taken runs at Molina's hold on the game's highest defensive honor.
