Molina survives tag at plate but Cards can't catch Marlins

JUPITER, Fla. • Yadier Molina, playing for the first time since last October, was tested almost immediately on Wednesday.

Molina, who suffered a torn ligament in his left thumb late last season while making a tag at home, was put in the position of having to make a tag at the plate in the second inning as Miami’s Chris Johnson tried to score on a single to center. Randal Grichuk threw a one-hopper home where Molina gloved the ball and retired the sliding Johnson.

This time Molina didn’t get hurt and he stayed in long enough to catch another inning before he was pinch-hit for.
