Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina had his second left thumb ligament surgery of the offseason on Tuesday, a setback that came after an initial surgery did not take.
Molina is expected to sit out much of spring training, but is expected to be ready for opening day, Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak confirmed to the Post-Dispatch.
In less concerning health-related news, Cardinals outfielder Randal Grichuk last week had surgery to repair a sports hernia. He is expected to be healthy by the start of spring training, according to Mozeliak.
