CHICAGO • At one point earlier this month, Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina was on pace to zoom past 1,200 innings behind the plate, a total that would have been almost three total games beyond his previous career high.
It would be a total that the Cardinals couldn't imagine earlier in the season, at least not in spring when getting Molina breaks during the season was such a topic of conversation.
The breaks are happening.
Molina will not start for a second consecutive day -- a noteworthy fact in the lineup at any time of year but especially so with the Cardinals opening a three-game series against the raging, third-place Cubs.
