ST. LOUIS • The name sounds familiar, seems familiar, and certainly has a baseball ring to it, but beyond that the Cardinals selection of Shane Billings in the 13th round of Saturday's draft isn't going to resonate much.
And then you check the numbers.
Billings, a junior at Division II Wingate University, hit .444 this past season with a .502 on-base percentage and a .639 slugging percentage. He has 200 hits in his past two seasons in college, including 104 as a sophomore for Wingate. He's a consensus All-American -- for the second consecutive season.
