The spot at the corner of Tucker Boulevard and Washington Avenue sits empty, any memories of that baseball-filled July in 2009 stripped away.
Once placed there was a piece of memorabilia, painted in red and emblazoned with Cardinals logos. The 10-foot arch replica celebrated the 2009 All-Star Major League Baseball game hosted in St. Louis, and was placed there shortly after the festivities. Tourists posed for pictures standing by the piece, no matter how faded the red paint had become in the six years that have since passed.
Then, on a recent day, that arch disappeared.
Turns out, city officials had received a complaint from the Downtown Neighborhood Association and Downtown STL Inc.
