Mets chase Garcia, lead Cards 6-3 after five

The Cardinals made that 3-3 tie disappear quickly.

Jaime Garcia, struggling through two innings, gave up two runs in the top of the second as the Mets took a 5-3 lead. He then gave up a monster home run to center fielder Justin Ruggiano, his second in 16 big-league at-bats, that was estimated at 447 feet to lead off the fourth.

Garcia came out for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the fourth. He allowed six runs on seven hits and one walk, given up two home runs and struck out six.

After the Cardinals had battled back to tie the game in the first, Garcia didn't welcome the fresh start in the second.
