Bob Costas has achieved countless milestones in his unparalleled broadcasting career. And although he is retired from his most prominent roles and is about to receive what he considers his highest honor, he still has an unfulfilled mission. It’s an undertaking that most of those who receive the award with which he is about to be bestowed experienced in their 20s, not mid-60s.
“Definitely, even more so because of the way people have responded to it,” he said. “Complete strangers. People in St. Louis. Letters I’ve received, texts I’ve received. It seems a very large number of them sense that its not just an honor, but an honor that means something special to me.
