Bob Costas said he has been humbled since being named the recipient of the Ford Frick Award, the highest honor a baseball broadcaster can receive.
He has been very gracious since receiving the news Wednesday, especially toward his adopted hometown of St. Louis. That’s where he began his career nearly 4½ decades ago.
That Frick Award, named for the man who was commissioner of baseball from 1951-65 and before that was instrumental in helping establish the Hall of Fame, is bestowed annually by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum on one person for excellence in broadcasting the sport.
