The two first basemen from the 2000 Cardinals’ National League Central Division championship team have been named to the Baseball Hall of Fame’s 10-man ballot for the "Today’s Game Era" selection process to be conducted in December at the winter meetings in Washington, D.C..
Slugger Mark McGwire, who played about half that season before giving way to injury, and July 31 trade deadline acquisition Will Clark, who went out blazing in his final two months as a big leaguer, are among the candidates chosen by a special 11-man Historical Overview Committee. The Post-Dispatch’s Rick Hummel is a member of that committee.
