The Cardinals announced a series of changes to their 2018 coaching staff on Monday. Willie McGee, a special assistant to the general manager who won the World Series with the Cards in 1982 and the National League Most Valuable Player Award in '85, was added to the Major League coaching staff in an unspecified role.

Additionally, third-base coach Mike Shildt was promoted to bench coach and Jose Oquendo moved into the vacant position after a stint as special assistant to the general manager. The 54-year-old Oquendo had previously served 16 seasons as the Cardinals' third-base coach before having to step away prior to the 2016 season due to health reasons.
