Matt Carpenter, Matt Holliday, and Matt Adams go on a tear as Cardinals blast Phillies 9-3

For the second time in this four-game series, a starting pitcher made his MLB debut.

Both Philadelphia’s Severino Gonzalez and St. Louis’ Tim Cooney had rough outings in their first starts in the big leagues.

One big difference was Gonzalez was tagged with the loss, and Cooney was dealt with the no decision.

Cooney had a quick hook on him in his debut as he lasted 2.1 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

What mattered the most after Cooney’s short outing was the bullpen behind him.
