Some of that “slop,” Matheny said, was not the daily give-and-take with the media but “some of the blowback from no matter what was said. There are a few people who have a knack for not caring what people think. I care.”
But the Cardinals missed the postseason in 2016-17 and would miss it again in 2018 after Matheny was dismissed in July when the team’s record was 47-46.
