Matheny: Injuries won't get Cards down

PITTSBURGH •The Cardinals already have lost their first game of the season and now, with the disabling Monday of outfielder Tommy Pham with a left oblique strain suffered on Sunday, they completed a run of losing four players in five days.

The only day they didn’t lose somebody was an off-day with no workout at all scheduled.

Manager Mike Matheny said during yet another off-day drill on Monday at PNC Park that he hoped Pham wouldn’t be out more than the minimum 15 days necessary. In the meantime, and perhaps beyond, infielder Aledmys Diaz will replace Pham on the roster.
