Matheny, signed to a multi-year contract Thursday by the Kansas City Royals to replace manager Ned Yost, who retired, said in a telephone interview with the Post-Dispatch that “I fell in love with managing more than I realized. I was really surprised how much I even missed some of the slop that comes along with it.”
