Matheny and Rosenthal triumphant again at Busch as Cardinals let one slip away

There wasn’t the dramatic rupture, the heartbreaking blast, or even the high-wire pitching decision that invites derision from the high court of hindsight.

This was more of a slow leak.

The Kansas City Royals scored a single run in five different innings by turning an error here or a walk there into just enough to take a lead, lose it, tie the game, and then edge the Cardinals 5-4 Tuesday at Busch Stadium. Ryan McBroom kept the Cardinals from being in position to sweep the series with a two-out, RBI single in the eighth. The Cardinals’ final three innings all ended with a runner in scoring position.
