With a day off from formal throws and between live batting practice sessions, Shildt’s staff invented and mapped out the 2019 PFP Championship Tournament. PFP is short of “Pitchers’ Fielding Practice,” and throughout Shildt’s first camp in charge as manager there has been an ongoing emphasis on strategic and situational fielding, not just running over and covering first or figuring out how to backup third after giving up a double or staying out of the way on a bunt play. The pitchers have been active, challenged, and on Wednesday – with a day off and clubhouse dues at stake – got a chance to show who was best.
