MIAMI • Two more runs scored on a swing of pitcher Carlos Martinez’s bat in the fifth inning as the Cardinals stretched their lead back to 9-2 over the Miami Marlins.
With Aledmys Diaz at third and Tommy Pham at second and one out, Martinez, who already had driven in four runs with his first two hits of the season, grounded to second baseman Dee Gordon, whose throw home was mishandled by catcher J. T. Realmuto.
Not only did Diaz, who was tiptoeing home, make it safely but so did an alert Pham, when the saw the ball get away toward the screen.
