NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. • After leading the Cardinals' rotation in 2016, Carlos Martinez will get a chance to pitch for his country in 2017.
The Cardinals' young righthander has been selected for the Dominican Republic's team in the World Baseball Classic. He received permission from the Cardinals to participate and will be on the roster, a source confirmed.
Alex Reyes also received permission from the Cardinals to pitch in the international tournament, but he has not yet been selected by the Dominican.
The World Baseball Classic will happen during spring training.
