PHOENIX • Carlos Martinez, who never had pitched more than 106 innings in a season, passed the 150-inning mark Thursday night. And maybe weariness is beginning to take hold.
Martinez, who had a 4.91 earned run average for his previous five starts, was staked to a 3-0 lead by the Cardinals after they had had two at-bats. But, in a laborious second inning, Martinez allowed Arizona to tie the score at 3-3.
David Peralta, Welington Castillo and Jake Lamb all singled, accounting for one run. Aaron Hill hit into a forceout although the Cardinals challenged that Hill was out at first.
