Carlos Martinez, who had allowed just five earned runs in his previous four starts, hasn't been quite as effective on Friday night.
After giving up a run without a hit in the first, he gave up trwo in the third on a home run by Scotter Gennett that put the Brewers up 3-0 on the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
The Brewers had four hits in the third inning, but were limited to just two runs thanks to a nifty backhand grab and flip from his glove that started an inning-ending double play.
Jonathan Villar led off with a single and then Gennett hit his 11th home run of the season, into the right-center field bleachers.
