ANAHEIM, Calif. • Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez completed a standard between-start bullpen session early Wednesday evening and the club expects him to make his start Saturday as planned.
Pitching coach Derek Lilliquist said Martinez was able to throw without limitations and was "all good" as he threw at Angels Stadium.
The righthander was unable to complete the fifth inning of a recent start because of an illness that sapped his strength, made it difficult for him to breathe, and, over time, caused about 5 pounds of weight loss. The Cardinals pushed back his original start from Thursday to Saturday to afford him two extra days of rest.
