Major League Baseball means major league food waste, but Busch Stadium wins EPA award

With some fixes at the plate, the St. Louis Cardinals are now batting .400 — not in the batter's box, but off the field, where 40 percent of Busch Stadium's prolific waste stream is now diverted from landfills.

A main component of that stream is food waste — an area where the organization has spent years looking to hone efficiency and find beneficial uses for food that goes uneaten, through composting and donations.

The Cardinals' efforts were among those honored Sunday at Busch Stadium by regional Environmental Protection Agency officials for work to "divert, donate and compost food waste.
