Magazine mogul makes final push for Yogi Berra honor

Time is running out — or as Yogi Berra himself would say, "It's getting late early out there" — to sign a petition to place The Hill's favorite son in contention for a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The Washington Examiner reports that Steve Forbes, publisher of his family's magazine, is pushing Berra's name for the illustrious honor.

With less than a week remaining, Forbes needs to garner 60,000 of the 100,000 signatures needed on a petition to put Berra in the running. The drive closes on Monday.

On the White House website, the petition in part states this about the 90-year-old Berra:

"A man of unimpeachable integrity and respect, he befriended the first black and Latino baseball players in Major League Baseball.
