CINCINNATI• It’s bad enough that the Cardinals have nearly a complete pitching staff on the disabled list. But now they’ve lost a second pitcher just warming up.
Earlier, righthander Sam Tuivailala had encountered a left knee issue while warming up (he is back now) and, on Thursday, it was lefthander Tyler Lyons suffering a sprained left elbow while throwing before the game and landing on the 10-day disabled list.
The latest injury meant that for the second time in a week and fifth time already this season, Mike Mayers was called up from the minors on Friday.
