Lynn runs into trouble in third, gives up game's first three runs

Entering Tuesday, Cardinals starting pitcher Lance Lynn had recorded eight straight quality starts.

Lynn's bid for his ninth straight took a serious hit in the third inning Tuesday. Lynn threw 28 pitches in the frame and allowed the game's first three runs to the Padres.

In total, Lynn has needed 64 pitches to record nine outs.

Lynn cruised through the first inning on 14 pitches, with the only base runner coming when Kolten Wong's throw got past first baseman Matt Carpenter. In the second, Lynn also allowed just a single base runner, though it took him 22 pitches to escape the frame, largely due to a 10-pitch at bat by Padres first baseman Wil Myers.
