PITTSBURGH — When Luken Baker finally got ahold of his parents Saturday afternoon, they, like him, were still in Omaha, Nebraska, still planning to go to that night’s Class AAA game and perhaps unsure why they had missed his calls.
He needed a lift from them to the airport.
He had to catch a flight to the big leagues.
“Started a regular old day,” Baker said and then gestured around the visitors’ clubhouse at PNC Park. “Ended up here.”
Looking to add some thump to the lineup, the Cardinals promoted Baker from Triple-A Memphis officially on Sunday morning, adding the International League’s leader in home runs and RBIs to their lineup as designated hitter.
