DENVER — Unable to do anything on the field during games on this two-city road trip, Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbaar joked that he kept himself busy with aggressive flyball shagging during batting practice, some of the most competitive of the season.
It didn’t hurt that he was wearing a glove on the wrong hand.
As he neared what could be a short rehab assignment starting as soon as Thursday night, Nootbaar continued to do as many baseball activities as possible with his bruised left thumb. Because of the pain he felt catching the ball, the right-handed Nootbaar borrowed an outfield glove for his right (throwing) hand and practiced routes and snagging flyballs with it.
