Cardinals outfielder Jon Jay has been around Pete Kozma enough to know one thing for certain.
“He’s just a good player,” Jay said. “He’s a good asset on this team.”
As Hillary Clinton has said, “It takes a village.” The Cardinals seem intent on demonstrating as much. They find new heroes at every turn, new ways to keep winning. An 11-inning, 2-1 victory over the Pirates on Saturday, the team’s 17th win in 23 games, was a case in point.
What it underlined as much as anything is how important Kozma is to the village.
“We’ve got every piece and those guys are doing a great job of playing their roles,” Matt Carpenter said.
