The confusion over how badly Kwang Hyun Kim’s left elbow was bothering him was cleared up to some degree Monday. The Cardinals placed the lefthander on the 10-day injured list with elbow inflammation and activated righthander Daniel Ponce de Leon (right shoulder discomfort) from the IL.
South Korean born Kim, who is second on the team in games started (19) to Adam Wainwright (22), has a 6-6 mark and 3.36 earned run average in his second season with the team. But in his past two starts, he has failed to go past four innings, with decreasing velocity, and admitted he had been concerned about his elbow although neither he nor manager Mike Shildt had said that it was serious.
