The Cardinals may well have lost their closer for the rest of the regular season with the news that righthander Giovanny Gallegos suffered a right groin strain while pitching in the seventh inning of Game 2 on Thursday. But the pitcher who began the season as the closer, Kwang Hyun Kim, will not be among the candidates to fill in at that job, manager Mike Shildt said Friday night.
Shildt says he wants Kim in his rotation and hopes that can come as soon as a Monday doubleheader in Milwaukee if Kim, who has been sidelined with a renal infarction, is cleared medically.
