The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Wednesday they have placed veteran infielder Jedd Gyorko on the 10-day disabled list with a left groin strain. Rookie outfielder Adolis Garcia was recalled from Triple-A Memphis.
Gyorko, 29, was removed from Tuesday night's game following a double in the eighth inning. The right-handed hitting infielder, who has started 20 games at third base in August, is batting .267 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI this season. In 24 games in August, Gyorko is batting .325 with 3 HR and 12 RBI, posting monthly highs in hits (25), runs (16) and doubles (6).
