JUPITER, Fla. — Some $22.5 million later, Cardinals lefthander Brett Cecil insists there still is hope.
“I’m not sure what anyone else would say, but, as far as I’m concerned, yes,” said the star-crossed reliever who missed all of last season because of carpal tunnel syndrome and was injured and ineffective in 2018.
After the Cardinals signed Cecil to a four-year, $30.5 million contract before the 2017 season, he has given them basically one decent year. He worked in a career-high 73 games in 2017, compiling a 3.77 earned-run average while striking out 66 men and walking just 16 in 67 1/3 innings.
