CHICAGO • The faithful have waited generations for a game like Friday’s at Wrigley Field. Kids who went there to see those spunky National League champs of 1945 have become great-grandparents. Millions have dutifully reported to the North Side to see a club that has built it up, torn it down, overspent, underperformed, and even, a few times, sprinkled holy water near the dugout in hope of growing a team that reached the World Series.
All of those years of wishing were rewarded Friday.
They’ll just have to wait a bit longer for a win.
