ATLANTA • Nearly 60 years ago, the Milwaukee Braves had a young lefthanded-hitting outfielder named Bob Hazle, who rose from obscurity to become a hitting sensation in the Braves’ 1957 World Series championship season and acquire the nickname “Hurricane Hazle.”
Now comes Jeremy Hazelbaker, a minor leaguer for the first seven seasons of his career but “Hurricane Hazelbaker” in his first week as a big leaguer with the Cardinals.
Hazelbaker, who has three extra-base hits in his first six at-bats, pinch hit in the seventh inning Friday night and cracked the second homer of his brief big-league career as he brought the Cardinals from a 4-0 deficit into a 4-4 tie with the Atlanta Braves.
