As Tony La Russa’s new employers continue their rush to one of the all-time best regular seasons, the former Cardinals manager finds the Boston Red Sox are quite similar to his Cardinals teams of the early 2000s and his Oakland teams of the late 1980s.
“What’s in common with all three is the commitment they’ve made to the whole game,” said La Russa when he was here recently for the Cardinals’ Hall of Fame ceremonies. “The attention to defense at every position, running the bases properly, taking productive at-bats.”
