The Cardinals have won 100 or more games for the ninth time in their history but, for the first time this will not translate into any serious Most Valuable Player recognition, reaffirming just how strong their team ethic has been this season.
In seven of the first eight 100-win seasons, the Cardinals have had the MVP in the National League, starting with Frank Frisch in 1931. Mort Cooper and Enos Slaughter were 1-2 in 1943, with Stan Musial and Marty Marion the MVPs in 1943 and 1944, respectively. Orlando Cepeda won the award in 1967.
Willie McGee was the MVP for a 101-win team in 1985 and Albert Pujols was the MVP on a 100-win club in 2005.
