ST. LOUIS • After several years of watching the rival Chicago Cubs pick higher and spend more in the amateur draft, the Cardinals get their turn this summer — and it didn't take a seismic shift in the standings for them to benefit.
All it took was the Cubs taking a few players from them.
The Cardinals will have three first-round picks and four picks overall on the opening night of the draft, according to details announced by Major League Baseball. The Cubs will be spectators on the first day of the annual First-Year Player Draft.
