Holliday ties Pujols as Cards pull ahead of Arizona

ST. LOUIS • They have played more than 120 years of National League baseball in these parts and only once before has a player started the season by reaching base safely at least once in his first 42 games.

That player as Albert Pujols.

He now has company.

Matt Holliday helped reclaim the game for the Cardinals and matched a little history in the process with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. After back-to-back walks to Kolten Wong and Matt Carpenter, Holliday poked a hard groundball back up the middle and into center field to score Wong and match Pujols.
