CHICAGO • With general manager John Mozeliak and a member of the team’s medical staff watching from nearby, left fielder Matt Holliday played catch Tuesday and continued to intensify his workouts as he readies to return from a torn quadriceps muscle.
Holliday has said he hopes to be activated by this weekend’s series in Pittsburgh, though Mozeliak cautioned that there has been “no timetable” for Holliday’s return.
“We’re going to be smart about this,” he said.
Holliday was not with the team at Wrigley on Monday because of a virus that meant he had to stay away from teammates.
