Holliday gets right back in lineup

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny has been where Matt Holliday stood Thursday night, as in taking a fastball to the face.

On May 26, 1998, Matheny, then playing for the Milwaukee Brewers, was hit in the mouth by Pittsburgh’s Rich Loiselle. He lost some teeth and spit out some blood but after leaving the game, Matheny got four stitches and came back to catch 10 innings the next night.

Holliday hit on the left side of his nose by San Diego’s Andrew Cashner on Thursday, had some blood trickling from his nose and upper lip and left the game, only to be in Friday’s lineup for the game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
