When Ben Zobrist was a freshman in high school, he wrote a poem.
It was for Ms. Sluder's class at Eureka (Ill.) High School.
Twenty years before his big hit helped the Cubs the World Series, Zobrist tried to capture those very type of emotions with his words:
The pitcher eyes the catcher's mitt.
He starts to throw the ball.
This is when I concentrate,
And the bat head starts to fall.
As the ball gets closer,
And my swing is progressing,
The force of the bat hitting the ball
Makes the sound of a “Clink.
