PITTSBURGH • At press time, the sky hadn’t yet fallen.
Late Tuesday, there was understandable fear from the amateur meteorologists amid Cardinal Nation. This due to the fact that their team strikes out with repulsive regularity. In the opener (a loss), St. Louis struck out 14 times. In Tuesday’s game (a loss), St. Louis struck out 13 times, three Ks coming in extras.
But look, the issue isn’t solely strikeouts. Of course, they’re not going to average 13.5 strikeouts per game in 2016. The number will lessen, so the biggest issue offensively is: How can they offset the strikeouts with power production?
