After a weekend of greetings, St. Louis finally said farewell Sunday to Albert Pujols the way it communicated to him all weekend: Through applause and praise and cheers and maybe even some tears.
“He epitomizes what a St. Louis Cardinal is — he deserves cheers,” said second baseman Kolten Wong, the Hawaiian who first said hello to Pujols at Busch Stadium in 2011, the year Wong was drafted — and the year Pujols said goodbye. “It was tough in that situation because of the full bases, but I understand where these fans are. All these people grew up watching him.
