JUPITER, Fla. • The Cardinals' full-squad workout ended a half-hour prior, but here is Ozzie Smith, coaching infielders wearing uniform numbers of some of the years he played. There's No. 82, Tommy Edman. And No. 79, Max Schrock. They're turning double-plays from shortstop, along with Paul DeJong, who scoops up a grounder and tosses it to second and… wait, did Jose Oquendo just turn that double play?
As the fellows anticipate Grapefruit League play, which begins Saturday, Cards instructors took advantage of any practice time they could steal. And while it's a visual that happens annually, it was still pretty cool – there were the shortstops and second basemen in camp, going through tutorials with arguably the greatest infielder who ever played.
