There was Adam Wainwright, trying to get right and not wane, pitching in front of curious eyes, nervous eyes. Now, one bad start — his season opener — didn’t mean he’s done. And two bad starts wouldn’t have, either. He needed — and thus still needs — a body of work to give a gauge on his body and workload. But Wednesday’s start was a glimpse and a glimmer, and goodness gracious, this outing was needed, if only because Adam needed a “win” for a change. And he got one — in a loss.
It was a reassuring start and one that, albeit temporarily, calms the tempers on social media and in the media.
