JUPITER, Fla. • Andrew Miller was 21-year-old rookie reliever, and he watched another rookie reliever throw one of the biggest pitches of either young man's life.
Miller was a lefty for the 2006 Detroit Tigers. Since the New York Mets had numerous lefties in their lineup, Tigers manager Jim Leyland told Miller he “would've been on the World Series roster or had a chance if we would've played the Mets,” Miller shared. “So, Wainwright messed that up for me.”
But Miller, who enters 2019 in his first season with the Cardinals, was indeed in the opposing dugout at Busch Stadium for the 2006 World Series, which the Cards won.
